The Administration for Children and Families promotes the economic and social well-being of children, youth, families, and communities, focusing particular attention on vulnerable populations, such as children in low-income families, refugees, Native Americans, and people with developmental disabilities.

This pie chart shows the percentage of ACF funds requested for major programs in the FY 2010 Budget. Specifically, 35% of ACF funds are for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, 15% for Foster Care and Permanency, 14% for Head Start, 9% for Child Support Enforcement and Family Support, 10% for the Child Care and Development Fund, 7% for Low Income Home Energy Assistance, 3% for the Social Services Block Grant, and 7% for all other ACF programs. The FY 2010 Budget request for the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) is $49 billion, a net decrease of $1.1 billion below the FY 2009 Omnibus, excluding Recovery Act funding. ACF administers over 60 programs to fulfill its mission of serving America’s children and families. The discretionary Budget includes additional funding for Head Start, Refugee programs, and a new child welfare initiative. The mandatory Budget includes $17.1 billion for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, $7.3 billion for Foster Care and related programs, $4.6 billion for Child Support Enforcement and Family Support, and $124 million for a new program to provide funds to States for evidence-based home visitation programs for low-income families.
